Following on from the success of the very first Cheltenham Beer Week last year, this year the event returns and we include our friends in Gloucester this year. The Cheltenham & Gloucester Beer Week (CGBW) will run across a ten-day period from 15th – 24th September with the purpose of celebrating beer, the fast growing brewing industry and our fabulous pub culture. Of course once again, we’ll be part of it!
On Saturday 16th September we will once again join up with our sister pubs; the Royal and the Exmouth Arms, for our very own Barking Mad Ale Trail. Visit each of the three pubs and complete some fun challenges (the ‘Mad’ part) and buy a half pint of beer. Along the route between the pubs pick up some fiendish (not really) clues, then finish back where you started and you’ll be rewarded with a gold star and a smile and go on then; a free pint of beer! You’ll also be entered in to our prize draw to win some great giveaways including a meal for two. The ‘Barking’ bit? Bring along your dog and he/she will be rewarded with a bottle of dog beer especially for them!
Our Brewer of the Month for September is Bristol Beer Factory. Come along and meet the team on Tuesday 19th September, 7.30pm when they will be here for a Beat the Brewer night. Yes you heard right, it’s more than just meet the brewer, we want to challenge them! So gather together a few friends to make a team and go head to head with the boys from Bristol Beer Factory. Do they know their beers inside out, by smell, appearance and taste, or do you think you know more than them? Plus answer some tricky questions about beer. The winning team will scoop up some major bragging rights and a whole host of Bristol Beer Factory goodies.
Then on Wednesday 20th September we’re pleased to team up with an amazing bunch of Brewsters for an evening celebrating beer with a feminine twist! We’ve teamed up with Shandin from Brewerism Brewery Tours and some super talented local Brewsters (female brewers) for an evening celebrating beer and learning all about women in the brewing industry. The Brewsters from Corinium Ales, Stroud Brewery and Unity Brew House will join Shandin at 7pm in our upstairs room when you’ll be treated to a short (and extremely interesting) chat about Women and Beer. There’ll be plenty of samples and afterwards the brewsters will mingle in the bar offering more samples with some food pairings. Plus we’ll feature a number of the beers on our bar for you to buy. This is really a chance to try something different, whether your an ale aficionado or an ale novice.
Throughout Cheltenham & Gloucester Beer Week we will also have a Pie & Pint deal. Yes, our super talented chefs have created a delicious Steak ‘n’ Ale Pie which, when bought with a pint of ale will cost you just £10.
